Job Description:

Role:


The postdoctoral research associate (PRA) will work with Dr. Chase and Dr. Zhao to manage the project and to coordinate the on-station (Plant Science Research and Education Unit in Citra, FL) and on-farm research (Gainesville and Hawthorne, FL) and reporting. Because the research locations are not on the main campus of the University of Florida, the postdoctoral research associate (PRA) is required to have a valid driver's license in order to effectively oversee the project and conduct the on-station and on-farm biological research.


Project Management:


The project management duties will include assisting with the management of a multidisciplinary research project and the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students participating on the project. This will involve but is not restricted to:



+ Scheduling team meetings, preparing team meeting agendas, and arranging for meeting rooms.


+ Maintaining an online folder containing the meeting notes from all team meetings.


+ Use of email and on-line calendars to keep all participants informed about day-to-day crop management activities that may impact their ability to access the main SOS trial.


+ Requesting and collating information from all collaborating project directors for annual reports.


+ Creating and maintaining an online repository for all project data and photos to which all projects upload data on at least a monthly basis.



Research:


The PRA will be responsible for the conduct of the research on the main on-station trial and will coordinate with the biological scientists of Dr. Chase and Dr. Zhao to accomplish objectives Research Objectives 1 and 2 of the SOS project proposal. The PRA will:



+ Prepare and interpret plot maps.


+ Develop experimental protocols to accomplish the objectives.


+ Keep records of all crop management and data collection activities in a format and location that is secure but permits access to project participants as required in the project's Data Management Plan.


+ Store raw data, data sheets, data analysis programs and results of analyses in clearly labeled well organized files and folders that would facilitate their use for report, presentation, poster, and manuscript preparation.


+ Analyze data and prepare reports, presentations, posters, and manuscripts for publication in refereed journals based on research results as required for meeting our commitment to the funding agency and stakeholders, and for PRA's professional development







Advertised Salary:

$47,476.00/yr



Minimum Requirements:

A PhD in Horticultural Sciences, Plant Pathology or Soil Science with experience in organic cropping systems and/or strawberry production and superior verbal and written communication skills.



Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise in evaluating the effects of cultural and biological management practices on soil microbiome, disease incidence, and soil health in strawberry cropping systems.



Special Instructions to Applicants:

The appointment is initially for 12 months. Extension will depend upon performance and the availability of additional funding. The start date is July 1, 2018.
