Crime Analyst
Skilled technical position that involves analyzing, summarizing, and generating organized computer data to assist in reducing, solving, and preventing crimes based on probability and correlation of events and data. Requires the ability to think analytically, multitask, and be self-motived.
Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Intelligence Led Policing Unit Sergeant. Performance is evaluated through observation, oral/written reports, results obtained, and appropriate employee performance appraisals.
+ Coordinate with other ACSO Divisions and Bureaus to determine what information would be of benefit to them and focus the activities of the position toward those objectives.
+ Prepare and provide analytical reports and assessments to ACSO and other law enforcement agencies as directed by the Supervisor.
+ Self - Initiate projects designed to track crimes and suspects to determine patterns, events, identities, and activities.
+ Review incident reports, passively investigative leads, field interview reports, first appearance rosters, DOC release notices, external agency intelligence bulletins, and other supplied information for data to identify crime patterns, trends, and to attempt to link suspects to specific offenses or types of offenses.
+ Utilize all available resources of information as appropriate to collect, evaluate, collate, and analyze information for appropriate dissemination.
+ Coordinate with the Crime Analyst(s) of other law enforcement agencies, including, but not limited to the APD, GPD, HSPD, UPD, FDLE, and FBI, and to provide a conduit for the flow of criminal intelligence information between agencies.
+ Monitor current crime analysis procedures and systems, identify deficient areas, and implement changes or make recommendations to supervisors of needed changes for improvement.

+ Follow federal, state, and ACSO directive procedures regarding the dissemination of criminal history/intelligence information.
+ Participate in formal training and/or in-service training for other Crime Analysts or other law enforcement agencies.
+ Coordinate, via the chain of command, with the Information Technology Unit (ITU) for assistance with special software or other computer needs; maintain proficiency in Bureau computer systems and equipment.
+ Assist deputies, detectives, investigators, and other law enforcement agencies on an individual needs basis with special reports, analysis requests, photo lineups, and other assignments as requested.

+ Normal office environment with administrative working hours - Monday through Friday with all agency designated holidays off. Working hours can vary at the discretion of the Division Commander or designee. Extended daily work hours may be required for special investigative needs. Considerable time spent using a computer. Noise level is low.


+ May be required to work overtime.


+ Knowledge of general office procedures.

+ Skilled in the preparation and presentation of written and/or graphic reports.

+ Ability to analyze criminal behavior from a variety of sources and determine trends.

+ Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information learned in the workplace.

+ Ability to write in a clear, concise, accurate, and well organized manner.

+ Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the ACSO administration, co-workers, other agencies, and the general public.

+ Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner and meet quality standards specified by the supervisor.

+ Ability to obtain intelligence and disseminate it to appropriate personnel, bureaus, and/or agencies.

+ Ability to "think outside of the box," in addition to being able to apply that thought process to their job functions.

Educational Requirements:

+ Associates Degree required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Preferred Major(s): Statistics, Criminal Justice or other related field.


+ A minimum of two (2) years of working experience using the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in Section VI is required.

+ Two (2) or more years of college and documentation that indicates training in Statistics, Criminal Justice, or related field may substitute for Associates Degree.

+ A Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for the two (2) years of work experience.

+ Experience with Microsoft Windows, the Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and graphic creation/photo editing software.

+ Experience with ARCGIS or other GIS applications, with Crystal reports, and with other report management systems including the ability to manipulate data is preferred.

+ Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


+ Possess a valid Florida driver license.

+ FDLE or equivalent Analyst Certification within one year of attaining this position is required.


+ Sit for long periods.

+ See and hear at a normal range/level.

+ Speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
